Examples of Shared Research Products
  • Peer-reviewed scientific publications
  • Patents
  • Competitively awarded research grants and contracts
Review Criteria

Investigators: Priority will be given to highly-aligned productive investigator teams with projects deemed likely to result in new research grants/contracts. Investigators must have an active laboratory and/or research program in either department. One investigator must have a primary appointment in the Department of Neurosurgery, and another investigator must have a primary appointment in the Fischell Department of Bioengineering.

Products: The overall impact and contribution of the product to the proposed project and likelihood of fueling future funding.

Investment: Flexibility is given to the review committee to invest in promising investigator teams based more on align and project features than overall quality and impact of the product(s).

Program Structure

Two co-directors, one from each department, assigned concurrently and thematically by the department chairs.

Selected project will be supported for one year, with the potential for two one-year renewals, for a total of three years of support, contingent on demonstrating productivity and availability of funds.

Only one project will be supported at a time, and a new call for applications will be announced when an existing project ends.

The yearly budget is set by the department chairs and allocated by the co-directors.

Funds will be designated for joint student support, critical collaborative equipment, support for publications and preliminary data for grant applications related to the Neuro-Link collaborations. Fund use will be justified and catalogued.

Bench space and office/conference space will be available on each campus, supported by the departments, with specific needs guided by the co-directors.
